the odes

*in development*

Kevin Doyle -- artist.

"the odes" will be a series of performance-installations depicting different individuals waiting.

Each setting is unique and is based upon actual moments captured on film, in photographs, or observations recorded in writing. As the audience watches mundane gestures and unassuming movements, a different scenario unfolds as a new shift emerges in the space. Three of the "odes" are identified and mapped out. A fourth might be in the works. The initial idea for "the odes" came to me on subway home from seeing "Hot Pepper, Air Conditioner, and the Farewell Speech" at Japan Society years ago in New York.

#1 -- "ode to a hispanic family seated on a subway bench"

#2 -- "ode to an indian woman stuck in a perpetual retail loop"

#3 -- "ode to three employees staring out their window in zürich"

ode. / ōd / noun. a lyric poem in the form of an address to a particular subject, often elevated in style or manner and written in varied or irregular meter.
